Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) allows multiple actors to maintain a shared ledger, enabling secure, transparent, and automated exchanges of economic assets. Through tokenisation, DLT links assets, actors, and sectors in new ways—unlocking innovation across the economy.

The DLT infrastructure now taking shape promises to be more transparent, adaptive and resilient. For Europe, this transformation is therefore also about strengthening sovereignty and reliability in an uncertain world.

In the last year in particular, DLT adoption has gained rapid momentum, in capital markets and across the economy. This has been supported by the introduction of new regulations enabling cash settlement on distributed ledgers (e.g. through stablecoins). The Netherlands is well positioned to be at the core of this transformation, with extensive expertise and prominence in industries - such as capital markets, trade and industrial innovation - with strong DLT use cases.

In recent years, DLT adoption in the Netherlands has begun to lag compared to elsewhere in Europe and beyond has increased. Moving towards DLT-based capital markets and a token economy also requires collective action from both public and private sector.

Given momentum and potential of tokenisation, now is the time to act.

This roundtable aims to identify key steps and serve as a catalyst for collective progress.
